From a Million Stories to a Million Trees: My Conversation with Authority Magazine

3 min read

It was so lovely to chat with Authority Magazine's Editor-in-Chief Yitzi Weiner recently about public relations, nearly two decades working across the industry, and some of the new projects I'm building.

As a publicist, I'm much more accustomed to being behind the scenes — developing stories, working with journalists, and helping others navigate interviews — so it was an interesting change to find myself on the other side of the conversation.

Yitzi's introduction made me smile:

"I had the pleasure of talking with Sarah Findlay-Blakeney. The most revealing image in Sarah's story may not be a red carpet, an awards show, or the moment she escorted George Clooney through a crowd of sponsors at an event. It is a tomato...."

Our conversation covered my journey into public relations, launching my first PR agency in Australia, moving to the United States, working across entertainment and consumer brands, and some of the lessons I've learned along the way.

We also talked about something increasingly important to me - finding ways to connect my work in communications with my passion for the environment. The resulting feature is titled "Publicist Sarah Findlay-Blakeney: I've Planted a Million Stories, and Now It's Time to Plant a Million Trees."

It feels like a fitting description of where I am right now — incredibly grateful for the stories I've had the opportunity to help tell, while thinking about what I want the next chapter to contribute.
