How to Ensure You Are Getting the Most Out Of Your Publicity
So you’ve decided to bring on the magical service of publicity. You have made that crucial decision to get your brand noticed and what better way to do it. Taking a Publicist on board is the first step to broadening the horizons of your brand.
However, are you getting the most out of your publicity? Here are a few handy tips and tricks to make sure you are maximising opportunities and publicity.
First things first, you need to start from the ground up and get the foundations right. Make sure you can provide all of the resources the media and the Publicist requires in achieving editorial results. These include:
- High-resolution images (300dpi, jpeg, 1-2mb)
- Product information, RRPs, stockist details
- As much information as you are willing to share with the public
- Current news and exciting updates
- Samples
Now, it’s all about communication so you need to ensure you are doing exactly that. No one can read minds (yet). Share all the exciting and upcoming news, events and anything you think may be of interest for the media (remember it needs to be newsworthy and have a hook).
Learn to trust your Publicist. This is probably the most important tip we can give you. You know your brand but we know the media. It is important to trust that the decisions your Publicist is making will pay off in the long run because they know what will and will not gain traction. Like you, they want to achieve results.
Lastly, make sure you are patient. It takes time to build the foundations of the brand and cement its place in the media but you will get results in the end. Remember national magazines work with a three month lead time so it will take a few months before you see the editorial achieved. The publicity process for many brand, especially new brands, is an education process with the consumer and media.
We hope this helps you get the most out of your publicity campaign and amazing results!
